Worn out, damaged or ill-fitting upholstery
When using an electric wheelchair every day, the padding may start to lose its comfortable cushioned bounce it once had. This is an inevitable problem that not only happens to wheelchairs but anything with a cushioned material on.
Some lighweight wheelchairs user may even require additional padding or cushioning material to provide an extra layer of support and comfort to suit their specific needs. If the upholstery on your wheelchair has suffered damage or has become worn out, then there’s no need to stress.

Unlocked/locked freewheel lever
The freewheel levers enable mobility assist users to move from manual and electric, but many customers are not aware of how to operate it. Freewheel levers allow you to swap the operation of your wheelchair from motorised to manual, and vice versa, and comes in handy if the battery has drained or if you would rather use your wheelchair manually.
You might find that your motor has become unresponsive, and while this might seem like a serious malfunction, it’s possible that your freewheel levers have been moved to the unlocked position. This disconnects the motor, meaning you can only move the wheelchair manually.
You can check to see if the levers have been moved to the wrong position and put them back to lock to reinstate the power function. Battery issues
Electric wheelchairs rely on battery power to function but sometimes there can be an issue with the battery.
It might be as simple as requiring a charge, or the battery may no longer hold a charge at all and is in need of replacing. Normally, batteries will simply deteriorate over time, and reduced performance won’t be noticeable for at least a year, or longer, depending on your usage patterns. Once your battery starts interfering with how you use your wheelchair day-to-day, it’s time to think about replacing it.
If your battery has worn out unreasonably fast, there could be an internal problem which will need to be inspected by one of our trusted technicians.
The best course of action here will likely be to replace it, and it’s worth asking for expert advice right away if you think your battery is starting to fail or has developed a fault.
Replacement parts
The longer you use a lightweight foldable wheelchair, the more likely you will have to replace a damaged or severely worn part. Wheels, caster forks and the joystick controller are all aspects of your electric wheelchair repair that can suffer damage or accelerated wear.
If you’re finding it harder to maintain control of your wheelchair, it could very well be due to damage sustained from a bump or collision. For instance, your caster forks can become loose, or your wheel may have bent slightly and will need to be replaced or repaired. Less responsive control is not only frustrating but also dangerous. Healthy brakes are especially vital and should be inspected and repaired or replaced as necessary as soon as you notice any damage or signs of failure. Electrical faults
Electric wheelchairs can sometimes get a loose wire, or the joystick may stop working. The charging may also below, or it can be an internal fault.
